Porcelain Kitsch
Have you ever wandered round an antique shop and thought to yourself "who buys this stuff?" We've compiled a selection of the porcelain horrors that we've found in antique shops, having looked at them and thought exactly that!
A chance encounter in an eBay antique auction brought the praying porcelain children and World of Kitsch together. The porcelain kids had a reserve price of £10 (already highly overpriced), the final price reaching £45! Can you imagine the little children adorning your mantlepiece, delighting and enthralling your guests? Let us put our hands together and pray that the bidder wasn't disaappointed!
Another chance find was this porcelain manger scene, to celebrate the birth of Christ. Doesn't the infant saviour look peaceful lying in his porcelain manger?
The porcelain pooch pictured below has become the unofficial mascot of World of Kitsch, gracing many fine pages on the site. She was originally featured on the "Kitsch of the Month" website which sadly no longer exists. World of Kitsch have resurrected the Kitsch of the Month page which can now be viewed by clicking here.
Teapottery
No guide to porcelain kitsch would be complete without a quick glance at these beautiful kitsch teapots, created by the Lake District's Teapottery, recently rated a Kitsch Wonder of the World. With over 100 designs from which to choose, there is a novelty kitsch tea pot of every conceivable design. Below are a small selection - more are available by visiting the Seven Kitsch Wonders mini-site.

We are constantly seeking for new kitsch and would love to hear from you. If you have found a piece of porcelain that is worthy of being on this page, please contact us with your stories.
Bizarre Raffle Prize: I was at a Jazz night and entered the raffle. I couldn't believe my luck when i won, but was shocked to find the star prize was a string dispenser, shaped like a mouse, made from porcelain. The string is dispensed through the mouth. What a great prize! Erica, Hull |
