Born on 18 May 1969 in California, USA, Martika soon took centre stage, with an appearance in the 1982 film, Annie. In 1984, she starred in the US television programme, Kids Incorporated, playing the role of Gloria. She stayed with the show for two years, before taking up a singing career producing a string of hit singles, including her debut in 1988, "More Than You Know". A second hit closely followed in 1989, "Toy Soldiers" reached number 1 in the US for two weeks and also made the UK top 10. Her most successful UK hit was undoubtedly the cover of "I Feel The Earth Move" by Carole King, which reached number 7 in the charts.
After the success of Her first album, her second album "Martika's Kitchen" was released in 1991 and spawned such hits as "Love...Thy Will Be Done" and her famous duet with Prince, "Martika's Kitchen". She was rumoured to be seeing Prince at the time although this was never confirmed. She remained popular in the UK well into the nineties.
