Following the merger of 2 already successful folk duos, the group were already on their way to stardom when they teamed up in 1973 to enter the Eurovision Song Contest. Despite only coming third, the group came back the following year, this time with a catchier name: ABBA. The newly formed group won with their first hit "Waterloo" and soon were on their way to superstardom.
The band soon became an international success with hist in numberous countries including their native Sweden. After securing the Number 1 slot in the United States with "Dancing Queen" in 1978 came their first film "ABBA - The Movie". This further accelerated the groups career as one of the greatest bands of all time.
1978 also saw the marriage of Anni-Frid and Benny but also marked the separation of Bjorn and Agnetha. Despite this setback, the band still endured a number of other hit singles and albums including the single "Super Trouper".
However, by 1982, rifts in the band were starting to show which led to the divorce of Anni-Frid and Benny and the end of ABBA.
Many bands have tried to mimick the band, with some success in the case of Bjorn Again (pictured below). However, none have been as successful and resiliant as ABBA.
