Golden Jubilee
This year sees Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrate her Golden Jubilee - 50 years reigning over the country. Naturally, this is quite an achievement, marked by street parties and celebrations up and down this green and pleasant land. Unfortunately, it also affords the less than scrupulous merchants an opportunity to make a tidy profit. World of Kitsch has researched on your behalf, some of the tackiest forms of royal kitsch gracing dinner plates to t-shirts across the Empire!
The Royal Palace produce their own range of merchandise, such as the Official Jubilee Mug pictured below, costing a rather paltry sum of £150 GBP.
However, the really kitsch merchandise comes at the lower priced range of the spectrum. Many of the items below come from local markets and roadside stalls in Central London, rarely costing more than £5 initially.
This stunning Jubilee horse-drawn carriage (above) comes finished in silver in its own collectors box. Many collectors pieces initially costing minimal amounts of money later go on to become collectors pieces worth very "princely" sums. Mugs seem to be a particular feature with the Jubilee, as was the case 25 years ago at the Silver jubilee. This selection certainly would look appropriate on any kitchen table!
If you fancy buying any of these kitsch mugs, our solution is to walk away and think very carefully before you buy. Will it actually be worth any money in the future? Only time will tell!
God Save The Queen!
