World Of Kitsch | Features

We get many e-mail messages every day to the World of kitsch office, many of which can be surprisingly emotive; others simply make our blood boil! However, there was one message we received in early July which really did get me thinking. The message simply read "Why do you bother?". The message was obviously intended as a sarcastic jibe at our otherwise fine site and a simple enough question at first sight. The question was very ineloquently phrased but, while not making my blood boil, did emote a response.

Why do we bother to produce this website? The answer is quite simple, we enjoy doing it and have fun in the process! But, more than that, our visitors keep coming back and enjoy reading about and seeing some of the kitsch items and people out there. World of Kitsch was originally started as a tribute to all things tack and was intended purely for our own amusement, although it has grown into something much bigger. I remember wandering through the seaside town of Scarborough, North Yorkshire, UK, looking at all the tourist tack and kitsch, wondering to myself "Who buys this stuff?" The answer my friends is you! These places wouldn’t still be in business if it were not for their customers and visitors, which is why there is plenty of material out there for World of Kitsch!

With the Queen’s jubilee year in full swing, there are many chances for unscrupulous retailers to make a quick buck. Some examples are included in our golden jubilee feature. We have also chosen to feature, Spanish Flamenco Dolls in our tourist themed month, as another fine example of tourist tack. If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to contact us and we’ll see about featuring them.

So, in answer to the original question posed, we produce this site because we love kitsch! If you love kitsch too, you’ll keep returning, as hundreds of you already do every month!
